OK, so who is going to devise a plan for me so I can happily cruise around the Kielder 100 course, considering the fact that
a. I have the summer holidays to get ready (am a teacher, one week to go)
b. have a wife baby girl who I would like to spend time with
c. have hardly ridden my bikes for about 6 weeks thanks to injury, but am fine now.
Fire away, happy to answer any questions if it helps sort my programme :-)
Read The Time Crunched Cyclist by Chris Carmichael helped me knock 36 mins off my Dyfi time this year.
ReplyDeleteThere is a start, thank you :-)
ReplyDeleteHis plans are all about normal people who have family and jobs so can't put in 20+ hours riding a week and instead use a more manageable 6-8 hours to good effect. He's quite approchable for example I know someone who got advice off him to tailor one of his plans for the goal of the coast to coast in a day.
ReplyDeleteI will be honest and say there is a fair bit of pain involved, but if you only have a short time to get into shape then that is going to the be case no matter what you do.

Music...sneak some biking in before event so legs aren't as tight or heavy then play music whilst riding event, it frowns the pain out. Jelly babies help, 1 every 15 mins...above all, enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteTraining and preparation are overrated ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, managed the Sustrans C2C in less than a day (19 hours is less than a day isn't it :-) ) and am a big Jelly baby fan, but did look forward the the pork pies in my drop bags at las years event. Am just determined to do a bit better than last year. i.e. not miss the first cut off by 20 f*&%$£g minutes by taking it too easy and listening to the marshals about how far!
ReplyDeleteOh, and Mike, does my casual approach to preparation need Beetroot juice? It was beetroot juice wasn't it? :-)
ReplyDeletePint a day for the week beforehand.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry about the colour of your... OK, in for a penny and all that!
