Just finished roasting some chestnuts. The fact that they were done was signalled not by the end of the cooking time, but the two dull thuds as a couple exploded. After a suitable cooling period however they have shelled beautifully and taste divine.
Chestnuts rock, fact.
They taste great. But I also know how they smell when I pass by the vendors rosting them in NYC.

No comment on the vendors technique but they smell as they taste in our oven at least (even the detonated ones) :-)
ReplyDeletelol... Then I'll have to give it a try. My girlfriend has roasted cashews before. Never tried roasting chestnuts.
