OK, so I can't seem to be able to get an invite to play Google's new game, #Ingress.

OK, so I can't seem to be able to get an invite to play Google's new game, #Ingress. I guess my question is, am I missing anything? Kind of VR game, in the real world, out on my bike linking stuff or doing whatever it is you do...

Sounds at least intriguing if not actual fun! So any of you doing it?

  1. I play it by bike. I just hit max level tonight. It's fun if you have a group of locals to play with. Sorta pointless by yourself.

  2. So need to see if anyone local is already doing it? Can you find that without getting in first?

  3. It would be difficult. I know I keep virtually all my Ingress posts to a private community. Don't want to clue in the other side as to what i'm doing. We're pretty good at grabbing new people and getting them in the community.

  4. Doesn't seem like players have been able to dish out invites yet so I guess you just hope you get one, post a geo-tagged and hashed "I got an invite" post on here and someone will find you...
    Nice :-)

  5. Chris Auton  It doesn't look like there is anyone playing in Matlock, nearest activity seems to be Alfreton (and it's entirely one-sided and fairly high level already).

Although a lot of people have been crying out for invites the coverage isn't good in more rural areas - part of the reason for the beta stage is to get players to submit portals in their local area (effectiively creating the 'game-space') so you might start by doing that (which you can do without even having an invite).

It's a fiendishly addictive game when you get a good mix of players in the same area :)

  6. leveling up in an area where there are nothing but high level portals is a bit boring as well. I hack the portals, get items I cannot use, and it is extremely slow leveling.

I tried it for a few weeks and once in a while try it, but, I live in a somewhat rural area and there aren't a lot of portals. The local guys are fairly protective and want to keep all of the ap to themselves, so, you can't tag along and put your own resonators on for ap - if you had any. Since all of the portals are high level, they don't drop level 1 and level 2 resonators.

So, even if you had some people that could pull you around, you don't have any of the items that you need to be able to level up.

It would be a bit more fun if I were closer to some portals, but, I only have five within a 15 mile radius.

  7. Hmm. Joey was hacking L4/5 portals along with me and getting only L1/2 items all weekend.

  8. I might have to try it again. I have 5 level 4/5 portals and my experience was

no items, -38% energy, L4 resonator, no items, -11% energy, L3 xmp burster and then I didn't have enough energy to hit the fifth portal.

That was a few days after my 99.9 mile midnight ride where I hit the same 5 portals 4 times and got nothing useful.

  9. Hacking enemy portals is a lose/lose proposition. Friendlies are ok.

  10. Right now our entire area is unfriendly. I have 5 unclaimed portals I'm going to hit which should get me really close to level 3, then, I'll have a bunch of resonators I can use.

What i need to do is dedicate the time and go up and down the city, but, I'd rather ride than play the game. :)

  11. I know that feeling. I have submitted a few portals along my route and gotten two in the game. I submitted like ten more. Then I have a huge number of very handy portals that most other people aren't going to be able to drive up to. Except then I have to stop constantly.

  12. OK, now it sounds like something I could really enjoy, as long as I sell my kids and have a long distance relationship with my wife!
Think I will have to wait and see :-)
Creating your own portals without being in the game already though... Hadn't even considered the possibility... Where would I start?

  13. Ok, I hit a few portals tonight and they have changed what they drop. I did get a number of L1 and L2 resonators and bursters and nothing that was unusable.

    So, that is a change.

  14. Is creating portals as easy as it looks then? Take picture, name it, submit? Might have to try and create a few, and just wonder if they will be there :-)

  15. Chris Auton yes it's easy - just make sure you have geo-tagged your images and share to 'NIA Super Ops' once you've installed the game - this will create an email with the image attached - all you have to do is give it a title in the email subject and send.

  16. I have absolutely no idea what you guys are on about. I wish I could say it sounds fun. It might be. I should try to find out some more.

  17. Chris Auton Plenty of people playing Matlock, including myself. Are you still looking for an invite in? I have a few going.

  18. Actually got an invite a while ago but pressures of work and my two toddlers make it very difficult to play, made it to level 2 in about 4 weeks of casual play but stalled there, I am a teacher though and the summer holidays may well re a resurgence in activity :-)
Thanks for the offer though. Out of casual interest, if you were to choose blue or green as a favourite colour, which might it be?

  19. Smurf all the way :) Though Kermits have a heavy presence in Matlock of late. I actually submitted Matlock St. Giles, didnt take long for it to become green owned.

  20. That's good to know :-) just had a quick look at the park though, looking very profitable if you can get there before anyone else...
