  1. As good as it always is, only drier! Couple of bits of the Ruthin course were different to how I remember them. Been a couple of years since I last had a go but a cracking, if long, day all the same.

  2. Its been a bit shocking how dry this year. Massive climbs and big descents, was it the Old Bwlch for the start again? It's bloody hard work on a road bike, guess with a 1,000 going up it once it would be quite the pain.

  3. Looking at the map would Bwlch Penbarras be it? Yes, it strings the field out a bit! Gets you used to what is to come though :-)
GPS gave it as 8,100 ish feet of climbing. Bit more than they officially gave it, but whatever it was, I felt them all!

  4. That in the Britain top 100 road climbs book, annoying bit is my Dad at 76 can do it on his 34x16 fixie!

Home turf you get used to the ups n downs I can get 1000m of ascent in a 21km loop up there, did you brake pads get a bit warm on the descents? Ps.. bet they kept you off the really good ones.

  5. Too many of us trudging across the fields and through the woods probably keeps us off anything too cheeky, that and it being an official event and all. More than makes up for it with speed in places. You get spat out at the bottom of steep, grassy slopes at 25-30 mph with a rutted farm track to aim for to keep you on your toes, and keep your disks nice and warm. Can't remember the name on the country park you go through but there was some nice swoopy and rocky stuff to go at in there, and boy do you have some loose, rocky and fast bridleways around there!
I think we visitors are treated quite well :-)

Edit- the 25-30 is certainly true for my quick mate, and occasionally true for me, GPS analysis will help decide how often for me ;-)
