Right, time to fettle some bike...

  1. Right, not too bad then, as hoped it is just a new set of gear cables (and not a shifter strip down or buggered mech), bottom bearing in the headset is totally and utterly seized, the top bushings on the shock are worn, but not enough to damage anything and one of Avid's delightful conical washer things on my front brake is split.

That means the rear hub isn't buggered, the suspension pivots all seem ok and I might have found at least one more reason why my front brake squeals like a mid-slaughtering pig.

Off to Cycle Promotions sale in Chesterfield tomorrow to see what we can find and then the proper hunt for bits can begin.

Any headset recommendations, you know, cheap and perfect, to replace the Cane Creek one on there...

  2. Not cheap but I definitely would recommend a Hope headset. Really well sealed and no maintenance needed. If you can stretch to it, it would probably save money in the long run.

  3. It is kind of tempting. Something like the Hope one that is rebuildable I might consider a good second hand choice as well, depending on the cost of bearings for the rebuild...
