Sorry for the begging but...
Emie, the girl in the picture has Turner Syndrome and as a result will never experience life the way you, I, and our kids will. There is no cure or prevention for Turner Syndrome which makes the support that the parents get even more important.
I will be taking part in the linked The Peaks Challenge soon in order to raise money for the Turner Syndrome Support charity. Click the link for more details but basically if you have healthy, well, "normal" children as I do (Emie is the daughter of a friend), I am sure you a grateful that they are.
If you can spare anything at all to help someone you never met please do, of only for the warm feeling you will get from your good deed for the day.
Sorry for bothering you :-)

The Three Peaks Challenge is meant to be proper hardcore. Not exactly a walk in the park. I only own about 2 pounds 40 something in change but might be able to donate at the weekend.
ReplyDeleteBetter get some training in Chris.
Funny you should mention training... I really hope that some of that c25k running stuff will help me out seeing as, well, I don't run! And Emie's parents both did a 10k last weekend, and another this weekend... I think it might hurt a little...
ReplyDeleteHey ho! Thanks in advance for anything you can spare, and how is the wrist nowadays Rick Horsfield ? Not heard much mention recently, then again, not been on here much recently either :-)
I've got a bad feeling you're gonna get punished haha. Some of my friends have done the three peaks, said it was hell & they're pretty fit. Rained hard when they did it too. I've walked/climbed Snowdon many years ago & that was hard enough for one day.
ReplyDeleteCycling & running will obviously be good training but not sure what the best way to train would be without running up a UK Mountain in UK weather. Just make sure you take a jacket haha.
My wrist has been quite bad the past 2 weeks actually. Sprained it a bit at work & it hurt all week, then when it felt a little better I tried to do some push ups & made it worse. It's no problem on the bike but still can't move my hand all the way back, hurts when it gets to a certain point & feels weak. Just doesn't get any time to rest properly with the day job.
If it doesn't kill you and all that :-)
ReplyDeleteThat said, bad news on the wrist. My broken one took long enough and enough people said a bad sprain can be a longer recovery. My dislocated shoulders certainly took a lot of care to get back to normal as opposed to just getting by. Good luck, hope some warm weather arrives soon, the cold can't help soft tissue damage that much I am sure.
Well hopefully not. It will be an experiece that's for sure & a massive achivement if you can pull it off. Just the logistics side will be tough.
ReplyDeleteThe wrist feels 90% fine, it's just that last bit that's not getting better.
How long did it take for your broken wrist to fully heal?
I work inside but "they" whoever they are refuse to put the heating on so it's almost as cold as working outside, sometimes warmer outside than in work. Definitely doesn't help. The warmer weather can't come soon enough.
It was a long time ago but pot was on for 8 weeks then maybe 3 months before everything was normal enough to not notice any more. But that was just stiffness going and strength/range of motion coming back without any physio at all.
ReplyDeleteWhats "c25k"?
ReplyDeleteDo you have to get to the summit of each of the 3 Mountains Chris Auton ?
Ouch! I didn't even know there were 3 different places you could break in your wrist Stripes the Tiger . That must have been a nightmare & put you out of action from doing many things for a long time.
All these stories I keep hearing of very long recoveries of injuries & long term issues later in life don't exactly fill me with optimism haha.
I genuinely thought my wrist would be alright after a day or two. Still not sure how it actually happened but seems it wasn't good & won't fully heal anytime soon. The past 12 months my hands have started getting bad pains, cramps, locking up etc. After hitting 30 years old it all goes downhill rapidly. :(
Rick Horsfield yea, c25k means "running for those who can't run" and yes, got to get to the top, and no, I can't take a bike to come back down. I asked :-)
ReplyDeleteStripes the Tiger the scaphoid is what I broke "won't be able to tell" he said "never show up on x-rays" he said. Then popped the x-ray onto the light box thing "oh" he said "yes, it's definitely broken, just there" probably helped that I left it 3 days thinking it was just a bit sprained... oops...
When I broke mine? Did it about 20 years ago, so x-ray tech may not have been so clear. They just put a cast on, was earned opp potential issues with the bone dying as it only has a blood supply from one end? Nothing to worry about so far though.
ReplyDeleteThe short version 'c25k' is a bit confusing. Thought you might have been running 25k haha.
ReplyDeleteStripes the Tiger Sounds like you made a mess of your wrist & very lucky to get it almost back to normal. Surgery must have been a bad experience. At least you live to ride another day & doesn't restrict the Lego building. It was the Scaphoid written on my X-Ray sheet & that bit that got bruised. The back of the wrist is the issue now though.
I don't usually do push ups but tried a few which made it worse.
Chris Auton That's some task to get to the summits & back down & repeat twice more on different Mountains & travel to them, all in 24 hours. The way conditions are looking there must be a good chance those peaks will be covered in Snow too.
It would be a shame not to get some real Mountain, BikeTrail action while your at it.
Will be back to Snowdon later in the year for biking adventures, and the "walk" is a couple of months of so should be OK, as long as I pull my finger out and get some runs under my belt... Plan to sleep on the minibus between mountains but suspect there will be to much chat at first. Should be fun though :-)
